YARMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Whether what's left of Hurricane Sandy hits us directly or not, we are expecting to get some intense wind and rain early next week.   So you might want to  spend a some time on this beautiful weekend picking up your yard and shoring up your trees and plants.

Tom Estabrooks of Estabrook's in Yarmouth says pick up any leftover stakes in your garden.   Take in hanging baskets, and potted plants.  Light lawn furniture and any umbrellas should be collapsed and stored.

If you have already wrapped delicate trees in burlap, you need to unwrap them.  The burlap will act like a parachute and cause more damage to the plant.

And if you have new planting that have more rooted yet, especially trees and large shrubs, you might consider staking them.

It's also good to know where you pruners are, and whether your chainsaw is in working order before the storm strikes.
