AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The lack of powder last winter was disappointing for snow-lovers, and even harder on the tourism industries that rely on it.

This weekend, snowmobilers kicked off the cold season with the annual Maine Snowmobile Show. It was an opportunity for riders to check out the latest sleds and gear, and get excited for what they hope will be a snowy season. Maine Snowmobile Association Executive Director Bob Meyers says snowmobiling is a multimillion dollar industry, and many rural towns feel the pinch during dry winters.

The best thing about snowmobilers is they're just eternal optimists. And yeah we had a bad year last year but we know next year's going to be a lot better, and we're ready for this winter and as soon as the snow comes we're going to be out there.

The Maine Snowmobilers Association says thousands of people from all over New England attend the show every year.
