BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Bangor Police Department said several streets were impassable after heavy rainfall in a short period of time Saturday morning caused widespread flooding.

UPDATE: As of 4:30 p.m. Saturday, police said water levels were subsiding and all streets were back open.

Police said part of Stillwater Avenue near the intersection with Howard Street was shut down, and Mt. Hope Avenue, Perry Road, and Griffin Road near the intersection with Broadway were all impassable and they urged motorists to stay away from those roads.  A barrier was also set up at the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Union Street due to flooding.

A dispatcher with the police department said several Bangor police and fire units along with the public works department were out Saturday morning assessing the situation, and they were shutting down roads as they deemed necessary.
