BROOKSVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The town of Brooksville has a strong sense of community and every Thursday people who live there and in surrounding towns get together and share a meal.

Audrey Peasley is one of the several volunteers who put on Meals for Me in Brooksville. Peasley said the Brooksville Meals for Me has been recognized as the top Meals for Me program in the state by Eastern Area Agency on Aging.

The meals are held at the town office and all people have to do is sign up so Peasley and other volunteers know how much food to get. Peasley said since this began in 2004, the community has turned into a big family.

"This last summer one of the original girls that started with us, her boy wanted to do something in his mom's memory. So we had a lobster feed here. There were 60 people here to eat lobsters, and that was his tribute to his mom. So you see it's become a real family thing. If somebody's not here, where are they? Are they sick? Do I need to send a card?"

Peasley said to help offset the costs the group asks for a 4 dollar donation in an unmarked envelope.
