BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Starting November 1, two of the Amtrak Downeaster trips from Boston will no longer end in Portland.
They will continue heading north making two more stops in Freeport and Brunswick.
Officials in Brunswick have been working with rail officials on bringing the train to their town for the past three years. They were thrilled to hear a firm date for the start of that service. They say the extended service will open their town up to a lot more visitors.
"I can't say enough good things about it, it will be a wonderful addition to the town and a wonderful way for people outside of maine to come an d see all the wonderful things in Brunswick", said Tracy Coughlin of the Brunswick Downtown Association.
A one way ticket between Brunswick and Boston will cost about $30. Discount plans will also be available for frequent travelers including Bowdoin College students.
