BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It's not often that someone finds a job they truly love. But for Guy Ortega, a cosmetologist in Bangor, more than a decade of hard work has finally paid off.. And his lifelong dream of opening his own salon is now a reality.

Ortega started in the industry by accident. He started in baking, but heard an advertisement for cosmetology school while in his office and decided to try it out. More than a decade later, Ortega is still in the business of making people happy - as he puts it.

He says he always dreamed of opening his own salon, so he could run his place his way. That's how Salon Bonifacio was founded. His love of interacting with people is evidence in the building. Ortega treats the salon more as a place to hang out, rather than a business. For instance, there's no waiting area of cash register.

Most importantly, Ortega says his goal is to reach out to the Greater Bangor community. He already works with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help kids look and feel their best.
