AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Inspectors with the Maine Department of Agriculture could find no reasonable explanation for maggots a woman claims to have found in fried chicken she purchased at her local Walmart.

Denna Tracy says she purchased a bucket of chicken at the Walmart in Oxford on Tuesday and shared some of the food with her 4 year old daughter on their way home.  She says she was shocked and disgusted to find maggots crawling on her food when she got a closer look inside when she returned to her house.

Tracy shot cell phone video which she says she posted on her Facebook page to warn family and friends.  The video spread rapidly with hundreds of people sharing it.

Steve Giguere, the acting director of the department's Quality Assurance division, says investigating complaints are their top priority.  He says their inspection found the store kept impeccable records related to their handling of food and that there were no violations to report.

A Walmart spokeperson says they take food safety seriously and are committed to offer customers quality food.  They explained that they use a third-party pest control company to keep their stores clean and are working to understand what happened.

Denna Tracy says she stands by her claim, and only made it public to warn other people, not for financial gain.
