PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Democratic Cynthia Dill is on the airwaves in the Maine Senate race courtesy of a Republican super PAC that hopes to take votes from Independent Angus King.

The ad points out differences between Dill and King, and encourages Democrats to vote for Dill. The ad superimposes images of President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

A newly incorporated super PAC, Maine Freedom, is paying to air the television ads. Its treasurer is former counsel for the Republican Governors Association.

Republican Charlie Summers would benefit from a strong showing by Dill in the race to fill Sen. Olympia Snowe's seat. His campaign manager was unaware of the ads.

King issued a statement saying the ads represent "another example of out of state interests trying to tell Mainers how to vote."
