BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Brunswick police officer was injured early Saturday morning when her cruiser hit a moose on Interstate 295. 

Brunswick Police say the accident happened just before 3:30 a.m. on the southbound side near mile marker 24.  Lieutenant Lynne Doucette was checking for a moose reportered wandering on the highway.

Police say Lt. Doucette was pulling over to check a vehicle in the breakdown lane when she struck the moose.  She was taken to Midcoast Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. 

The crash is under investigation by Maine State Police.
