NEW YORK (AP) - A neighbor of a New Jersey man who implicated himself in the death of Etan Patz, a 6-year-old boy who disappeared from a Manhattan street on his way to school in 1979, says he can't believe he'd do something like that.

A law enforcement official says Pedro Hernandez was taken into custody Wednesday evening in Camden, N.J., and is being questioned. He has not been charged with a crime.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.

A woman who answered the door at Hernandez's home in nearby Maple Shade confirmed he was in custody. A neighbor says Hernandez "didn't seem that way."
