Orono, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Orono Bog Boardwalk officially opened for the season this morning at 7:00am. The 4200 foot long Boardwalk takes visitors through the Orono Bog, which spans an area of more than 600 acres. A variety of wetland plant species grow there, and there are a number of nature tours throughout the season.
"May first is our opening of the tenth year of the boardwalk," said Jim Bird, The director of the Boardwalk. We opened in june off 2003 so this is our tenth opening and I think it's quite a milestone."
The Boardwalk will remain open until late November.
