CHARLESTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Young people who attend the Charleston Pentecostal Church in town might now find Sunday school a little more interesting.
The church now has a new wing entirely dedicated to youth religious instruction. Leaders at Charleston Pentecostal Church say that their new 'Epic Center' cost about $680,000 to build.
Church members came together Tuesday morning for its grand opening The center features an auditorium with high-definition flatscreen TVs as well as several SMART classrooms for teaching.
Leaders of the church say the new center should help them reach its growing youth population, which now stands at about 350.
"It's a location where people might be a little timid to go to church...they can come to the Epic Center," said Matt Ward, who is the church's senior pastor, "everything from the layout to the technology is totally geared for today's youth so that it can be very easy for them to understand what we're trying to teach them."
Ward says the new wing will mostly be used for the church's "Kids on the Move" program for young children which meets every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. He says the congregation is hoping to pay off the new building in about seven years.
