AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Some Legislators and state workers are angry about comments made by the Governor Thursday night.

According to newspaper reports, the Governor told a town hall meeting in Newport that middle management state workers are "corrupt".

Today his press secretary clarified the remark, saying Governor was talking about people with a lack of integrity. She said there are people working inside state departments who have been trying to block changes the Governor wants to make.

We know we have some people nin government impeding that process, putting up roadblocks...delaying information, the receipt of information to some people. And that is counterproductive to what we're doing. And to the governor that is corruptible behavior. When the union tells employees to simply ride it out wait til 2014 when this chief executive is done, that is corruptible behavior in his eyes.

Bennett says the Governor was not accusing employees of any sort of financial wrongdoing. Several legislators said they were unhappy at the Governor's choice of words, and planned to say more about it next week.
