TRENTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An animal shelter in Trenton is hoping to give some island hopping puppies a new leash on life. The puppies have travelled thousands of miles for the chance to be adopted.
There were long lines of people outside The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Hancock County. The people were waiting to get a look at the 12 new puppies at the shelter.
The dogs come from the island of Guam. Officials at the shelter say they brought the dogs from overseas as a way to relieve stress on shelters in Guam.
Tracy Shaw with SPCA says over 400 dogs and puppies were euthanize do to overcrowding in Guam shelters.
Shaw says to do your research before adopting a pet. Raising a dog can be rewarding as well as challenging.
