ATKINSON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Firefighters and Maine Forest Rangers have been nothing short of busy across the state as more than two dozen grass fires have been reported over the past day or so -- most recently in Atkinson, near Dover Foxcroft.
It sparked around 7 Friday night. Rangers say a man was burning grass at his home on Buck Road, when it quickly spread. A shed was destroyed, and the homeowner now faces up to $500 in fines for burning without a permit. His name has not been released.
In the meantime, it's just one of many wildfires Rangers say they've dealt with recently. They warn conditions are dangerously dry and no one should ever burn without a permit.
