(NEWS CENTER) - The Maine Department of Transportation has decided to keep a state-run van pool service running through early September.

In February, the D.O.T. said the service would be shut down in May.

About 225 people use the van pool, most of them state employees who commute to Augusta.

The D.O.T. said it was ending the service because it doesn't have the money to replace its 27 vans.

A private company has said it can provide a similar service but riders say it will be significantly more expensive.
