OWL'S HEAD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The U. S. Coast Guard says a good samaritan helped out in the rescue of three fishermen who had to abandon their ship.
At 8:40 PM Friday, the Coast Guard received a report that the Miss Jill was sinking and three mariners were abandoning ship and boarding their life raft.
The Rockland Coast Guard station dispatched a ship and issued a broadcast asking nearby vessels to assist if they could.
A 30 footer, The Rising Sun, happened to be nearby and plucked the fishermen from their raft.
The Coast Guard credits the rescue to Maine's tight-knit maritime community.
