SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- You can now report some crimes online in South Portland.
The South Portland Police Department has launched an online crime reporting site for minor incidents, like car break-ins and harrassing phone calls. They're hoping it will encourage people to report the crimes, even if they don't have time to wait for an officer to come over. And they're hoping that the system will free up more officers to be able to respond to emergencies because they aren't tied up taking a report.
People who file reports online also will get a final police report emailed to them once an officer has reviewed their report. You can get to the online reporting system through the City of South Portland's webpage.
