AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Former President Bill Clinton has endorsed Elizabeth Mitchell in the race for the Blaine House.

During his presidency, Clinton appointed Mitchell to be the first female chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston.

Mitchell, a democrat, is running as a Clean Elections candidate.  In his letter, President Clinton cites the recent Supreme Court ruling that allows for corporations to buy political campaign spots.  Clinton says the decision "will flood our politics with corporate money, making it all the more important to have Governors like Libby who get elected without it."

Libby has served nine terms in the House and three in the Senate.  She is the only woman in the country to preside over both State House and State Senate.
