STANDISH, Maine (AP) -- Seven Maine lakes have been chosen as test sites in the fight against invasive milfoil in the coming year.

The Maine Milfoil Consortium says the sites are Sebago Lake and Little Sebago Lake in Cumberland County; Messalonskee Lake and Pleasant Pond in Kennebec County; Shagg Pond and Thompson Lake in Oxford County; and Lake Arrowhead in York County.

The consortium recently received $500,000 in funding from Congress to study ways to mitigate and eradicate variable leaf milfoil from Maine's lakes.

The group says 26 Maine lakes are infested with variable leaf milfoil.
