BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Police in Bangor say a man who claimed he was being held at gunpoint, may have made the story up.

Friday evening around 5:45, Bangor police received a cellphone call from 19 year-old Daniel Chute, of Raymond, claiming that he was being held at gunpoint in a car in parking lot of Hoyt's Cinema's on Stillwater Ave.  Police say Chute also told the dispatcher that if his captors weren't wired several hundred dollars, they would shoot him.

When police traced the phone call however, they discovered Chute and two other people were actually in a car down the street at Burlington Coat Factory.

Police caught up and interviewed Chute, which led to charges of Filing a False Public Report or Alarm, and Failure to Give Correct Name and Address.

Chute has been summonsed and will appear in court at a future date.
