
PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- Mercy Hospital's Oncology Hematology Center is opening its doors to help the public learn more about how to prevent cancer.
The Fall Into Wellness Fair was held at the Mercy Fore River Medical Building Thursday. The center's staff offered cooking demonstrations on healthy meals, there were guided tours of the center where people could meet with doctors and nurses.
People also learned about the latest clinical drug trials and information about cancer screenings. The goal is to help prevent cancer before it strikes. Cancer patient Jane Sands is going through her third round of chemotherapy at the center. Sands a breast cancer survivor now has stage four lung cancer. She says the support from the center's team of doctors to social workers should help her pull through one more time.
