Bangor Business Owners Try New Marketing Campaign

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Downtown Bangor has grown in the last few years, as more restaurants and bars have sprung up. And now a handful of business owners are looking to give part of downtown its own nightlife identity.

The owners of five establishments have started a campaign to promote West Market Square in downtown Bangor as "The Square."

The addition of more restaurants and bars has led to more people heading downtown at night. The coalition of owners sees the campaign as the perfect way to capitalize on that trend.

They are hoping to attract people who normally go to bars and restaurants in the Bangor Mall area by scheduling a number of events. The bar and restaurant owners also said that getting people to head to "The Square" will require debunking some myths about downtown -- namely the parking situation.

They add that they also hope to work with other businesses downtown in the future.
