NEWPORT (NEWS CENTER) -- State Police are asking hunters in the Newport area to look for anything unusual while they are in the woods.

A wooded area around Newport, Corinna and Stetson is where investigators are searching for Perley Goodrich, Jr., who has been missing since Monday. The area is a popular spot for hunters. Deer season begins at first light on Saturday.

Goodrich is the man wanted in connection with the shooting death of his father, and assault of his mother.

Overnight, investigators searched an area near Brooks Pond off the Smith Road in Corinna. A Newport police officer spotted a man near an ATV trail.

State Police and Newport Police are stepping up patrols in the area with help from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department and the Maine Warden Service.

If you have any information about Perley Goodrich, call 911.
