ALFRED (AP) -- A Maine woman who pleaded guilty to killing her husband by setting him on fire while he slept was sentenced Thursday in York County Superior Court.
A judge handed down a sentence of life in prison without parole to Kimberly Spampinato. She was accused of pouring gasoline on her husband and starting the fire early on Jan. 8. Neighbors say Christopher Spampinato was on fire when he ran from the apartment building and that he rolled in snow to douse the flames. He suffered burns over 85 percent of his body and died nine days later. Prosecutors say Christopher Spampinato had asked for a divorce and had been on the phone with a Texas woman before he was set afire. Kimberly Spampinato pleaded guilty to murder and arson.
