BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Residents at Freeses assisted living facility in Bangor got a chance to meet the people who are now managing their facility. It has been three weeks since Penquis took over management of Freeses.

Penquis held an open house today so its staff could meet and greet the residents of the facility.

The Bangor based non-proft agency also took over management of Stearns assisted living in Millinocket and Merry Gardens in Camden.

Eastern Area Agency on Aging had been running those facilities, but abruptly announced it could no longer afford to manage them.

"We have not made any changes yet and most of the staff from Eastern Area (agency) on Aging have come over and stayed with us so there's very little change for the residents which is what we really wanted was a smooth transition for those folks," said Charles Newton, executive director of Penquis.

Penquis does operate some senior housing facilities, but this is its first time running assisted living facilities.
