
BANGOR (NEWS CENTER)--A former Medway selectman charged with vehicular manslaughter was back in court Monday facing charges for bail violations. Under his bail conditions, 44 year old James Lee is not allowed to operate a motor vehicle or construction equipment. He was jailed at the end of last week after witnesses reported seeing him driving a road grader. Police say lee was speeding in his truck last September when he crashed the vehicle and killed one of his passengers, 28 year old William Russell. Outside court Monday one of Lee's other passengers, who was injured in that truck crash, spoke out. 38-year-old William York says "that was an awful accident that night he was going just as fast as that truck could go when he hit that curve and I didn't even see the curb coming i was looking out the door window the only thing I can remember is glass and rocks hitting me in the face." York says since the crash last year, he has come to Bangor at least once a weak for medical treatments. He was in Lee's truck when Lee allegedly was speeding and crashed last September. 28-year-old William Russell who was also in the truck was killed. While on bail awaiting trial Lee was not to operate a motor vehicle or construction equipment. but authorities say witnesses saw Lee operating a grader for his construction company. York says he's seen Lee driving another time and he believes other people have too and have simply not wanted to get involved. York says "well it could be you it could be your kids your wife, your family or anyone on the road or if he's coming through a parking lot, whatever, he's on the phone talking, he drives like no tomorrow he could run over you." Lee's family members declined to comment after the hearing Monday. Lee posted was released on two-thousand dollars bail from Penobscot County Jail. He now faces a bail revocation hearing in Waldo County. According to the Waldo County District Attorney's office no hearing date has been set for that hearing.
