BAR HARBOR (NEWS CENTER) -- The body of a boater from Freeport has been recovered along the shore in Bar Harbor.

The Coast Guard, Maine Marine Patrol, local fire departments and fishermen had been searching for Dr. John Myers, 56, since Tuesday afternoon. Myers had dropped off his sailboat at a boatyard in Hancock Point and was headed back to Salsbury Cove in a 12-foot skiff.

Early Wednesday morning the Coast Guard recovered Myers' skiff. The Maine Marine Patrol said Thursday morning, just before 11 o'clock, someone walking along the Bar Harbor shore spotted Myers' body.

Sgt. Dale Sprowl of Maine Marine Patrol said Myers' body has been taken to the state Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Sprowl said the conditions when Myers disappeared were "pretty rough."
