YARMOUTH (NEWS CENTER)--A new program has been launched in Maine schools that is designed to teach students about the importance of conserving and using energy wisely.

The program is sponsored by Efficiency Maine and designed by the Maine and Science Alliance.

It teaches kids simple ways to save energy, by turning down the heat or putting on a sweater, and it makes them aware of the need to be more energy independent.

Teachers use a Power Sleuth program that they can access on the web.

It's taught to students in grades four through 8.
