AUGUSTA (AP) -- Health officials say eastern equine encephalitis has been confirmed in a second flock of pheasants in southern Maine.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday the flock was located in Parsonsfield. The first case involved a flock in South Berwick.

Both flocks are under quarantine and will be euthanized. It's believed they contracted the virus through mosquitoes.

Officials say the birds were brought to Maine as chicks and raised in a program between the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and several rod-and-gun clubs.
