BOOTHBAY (NEWS CENTER) -- Some big names from pro sports history are in boothbay for a good time and a good cause. This weekend is the 19th annual Boothbay Charities Classic, a golf tournament that raises money for the special olympics.

Each year the event draws dozens of retired professional football players, baseball players and others from the athletic world. Organizers say many of them come back year after year, because they've come to have close ties to the people in the Boothbay area. Local businesses and individuals donate to the event. Organizers say they've raised more than half a million dollars for special olympics over the years.

There's a big auction Friday night at the Boothbay Railway Museum. It's filled with items autographed by pro sports stars. The golf tournament is Saturday.
