SHAPLEIGH (NEWS CENTER) -- While it's not uncommon to have weddings on Saturdays in the fall, one in Shapleigh this Saturday was set apart by one thing. The bride and groom's ages. 94-year-old Clayton Valley married 87-year-old Gertrude Fletcher. Both are long-time Maine residents, and arrived at Ross Corner Church in a 1924 Model 'T' Ford. It was the groom's first car when he was 14 years old. They met through the groom's daughter and say their first date included lunch and a trip to see clayton's house. "I asked him, 'Would you ever marry again?'" said Fletcher. "He said, 'If I found the right person.' So I said, Well, I'd like to be the right person.'"
Fletcher couldn't keep the kisses to the end of the ceremony, sneaking one before the vows were even exchanged.
The two plan to honeymoon on Lake Winnipesaukee for the next few days. Between them they have 35 grandchildren.
