SOUTH PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- Southern Maine Community College is adding new trades programs to meet the changing needs of its students.
Enrollment is up more than 5 percent over last year and up 71 percent since the school became a community college in 2003.
The new certificate programs in Electrician Technology and Residential Framing are geared toward getting people the training they need to get jobs in less time than the usual 2 year program.
A growing number of people are returning to college looking for a new career in a field they hope will stand alone in a recession.
