ROCKLAND (AP)-- Two lobsterman have filed civil lawsuits in the wake of last weeks shooting in Matinicus.

68 year old Vance Bunker has been charged with elevated aggravated assault. Authorities say Bunker shot fellow lobsterman, Chris Young in the neck in a dispute over lobster traps on July 20th.

Young, who is still in the hospital, filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Knox County Superior Court. He is suing for punitive damages from Bunker in connection with the shooting.

A second lobsterman, Weston Ames has also filed a lawsuit against Bunker for damages. Ames says Bunker fired a gun at him and missed before he shot Young.

Bunker's attorney says Bunker was acting in self-defense. Bunker is free on bail under the condition that he not return to his home on Matinicus for an indefinite amount of time.
