PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- The Bayside Neighborhood Association is trying to bring together Mainers of all backgrounds with its annual World Market and Fair at Portland High School. This is the 3rd year of the annual event. Participants can sample food from all over the world, courtesy of the immigrants who have moved to Portland. The fair also features musical performances, and storytelling from refugees who have come to Maine to escape persecution. Organizers feel that when people of different backgrounds come to speak to each other, they learn we all have a lot in common. About 4,000 people attended the fair this year, about 500 more than last year.
