ELLSWORTH (NEWS CENTER) -- Julia Ventresco doesn't like living in a disposable society. A few years ago, she was working as the bulk food buyer for a natural food store in Ellsworth when she had the idea to create a new product out of discarded materials.
Three years later that idea has taken off.
Ventresco began saving old paper grain and dog food bags. She recycled them into carry along shopping bags. Ventresco says the bags are already designed to hold between 50 and 100 pounds, she just had to design handles and make them sturdy enough for everyday use.
Ventresco says as she creates new bags she tries to use as much of the original bag as she can. "It may sound hip or trendy, but it didn't start out as that," Ventresco explained. "For me it is a necessity to create things, so I would find things and make things out of them.
Now it is my passion. It is not just a hip trendy thing for me, it is my way of living."
The bags are sold under the label "Twice The Bag". Ventresco says they're 100% guaranteed, not, to last forever. She says the beauty of her product is when you are done with the bag, you can throw it into your recycling bin.
