PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- Thousands of runners and walkers hit the streets of Portland Sunday for the largest 5k race in Maine, the 9th Annual Portland Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K. This was the first year that the race had more than 2000 finishers. All the money raised goes to benefit breast cancer research. Runners crossed the finish line in Hadlock Field at third base, giving Slugger and Slugger's mom high fives. All moms get pink carnations, and everyone who participates gets a ticket to an upcoming Sea Dogs game. The winners were Curtis Wheeler of Buxton and Christine Reaser of Dayton. They get season tickets for the rest of the Sea Dogs season, and they get to throw out the first pitch at an upcoming game.
