(NEWS CENTER) -- Elementary school students in Greenville and Shirley could be changing where they go to school. School Union 60 is considering closing Shirley Elementary School in July of this year. The two room school house has only two students, and school officials don't expect enrollment to increase. That same school union is also considering closing Nickerson Elementary School in Greenville. The nearly one hundred students in that school would move into the Greenville Middle and High School building next door. Superintendent Heather Perry said the Nickerson Elementary building needs a lot of work to stay open. But she said in order to move the kids to the high school, that building would need major renovations as well. "We're still in the idea phase, the planning phase," Perry told NEWS CENTER. "With those basic cost analysis it could be somewhere between five and six million dollars in order to make the capital construction changes that need to take place in the Oakes Building in order to move the Nickerson kids next door." There is a public hearing Tuesday night in Shirley to discuss closing the Shirley Elementary School. The school committee will vote on the issue on April 15th.
