(NEWS CENTER) -- The Army and US Postal Service are honoring a Maine soldier who was the first post office employee killed in the Iraq War. Sergeant Larry Roukey was killed in Baghdad six weeks after he was deployed in 2004.

On Friday, Roukey will be memorialized when the new Army post office in Baghdad opens. Roukey's friends at the Postal Distribution Center in Scarborough still keep in touch with his widow, Ryann.

They say they are honored that the Army has chosen to do this -- because Sergeant Roukey was unforgettable.

"He was just an outstanding person. And we lost him, we lost part of our own. And to have the post office to do something was pretty good because it's tough, and to read that about Baghdad, you know. It's right here. You feel it from within," said Roukey's friend Terry Wright.

The new post office will be dedicated at 9 AM Baghdad time on Friday. It's located on "forward operating base Prosperity" -- a US base in Baghdad's international zone.
