Southern Maine Autism Conference brings families support

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Hundreds of parents and caretakers attended the Southern Maine Autism Conference on Saturday.

The event drew people from across the state. The conference is free, and it brings families together with educators and professionals.

According to the Center for Disease Control, one in 68 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder.

Erin Rice of Pine Tree Society says that families caring for someone with autism can often feel isolated, and conferences give them the opportunity to network and form supportive relationships.

The conference is a partnership between Pine Tree Society and Spurwink.
