Six kittens found abandoned in a dumpster in Rockland

ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Six abandoned kittens are safe after being found abandoned in a dumpster.

The kittens were found in a hopper at the Rockland Transfer station. The cats were then taken to the Pope Memorial Humane Society in Thomaston to be cared for. They were paired with a surrogate mother who helped nurse them back to health. The kittens will spend the next seven weeks in a foster home.

After that, they will be up for adoption. No word yet on who may have put the kittens in the dumpster.
