Arraignments begin in Sherman murder case

First of 3 suspects charged in Sherman murder

HOULTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Three Massachusetts residents have been charged with the murder of 31-year-old Douglas Morin Jr. of Oakfield.

The arraignment lasted less than 10 minutes Friday and the victim’s family members said they are just happy to see a progression in the case.

The last time anyone in Douglas Morin Jr.'s family saw him alive was Sunday morning, Oct. 16, when he told his father he was going to run a few errands. He never returned.

His body was found inside his vehicle on a dirt road used mostly by hunters and ATV riders.

State police still have not released any information about how Morin died, but they did say it appears to have been a robbery that was drug-related.

At the time of his death, Morin’s family said he had just gotten a job as a truck driver and was getting his life back on track.

Tia Ludwick of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, is one of three people being charged with his murder.  She pleaded not guilty and is being held on a $500,000 bond.

The state attorney general’s office said it’s still waiting for the two other suspects — both men from Massachusetts — to be extradited to Maine to face charges.
