Severe weather hits Oxford County

SOUTH PARIS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A round of storms did some damage in Oxford County Monday evening.

Strong winds took down trees and power lines, creating a close call for drivers in South Paris.

Police say three cars on High Street in South Paris were trapped by down trees. Firefighters helped to back them out and everyone made it out safely.

"It was scary for the operators," said Sgt. Hartley Mowatt.

Mowatt said High Street and Elm Hill Road would be closed until CMP line workers were able to repair power lines.

He said he hoped to have the roads back open and have power restored in the area by Tuesday morning.

At 11 p.m. Monday night, CMP reported 6,700 customers were without power, with most of the outages in Franklin, Kennebec, and Oxford Counties.
