SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Sanford teen is facing criminal terrorizing charges after posting threats to shoot his fellow classmates on Facebook.
The 17 year-old student was arrested at his home on Thursday evening after Sanford Police were notified by a concerned parent of another student. Police say that weapons found secured in the residence were not accessible to the teen. Sanford Police Chief Thomas Connolly said, "The most important aspect of the case is that a student reported her concerns about the suspect's Facebook posts…and alerted us to the threat."
High School officials worked with police to ensure the safety of students just hours after the report, and classes were not interrupted.
The teen was admitted to the Long Creek Youth Center, before being transported to a nearby hospital. He is currently being held in protective custody awaiting a psychiatric evaluation.
