Rumford town official faces child pornography charges

RUMFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A member of Rumford's town budget committee has been charged with child pornography distribution following an investigation by the State Police Computer Crimes Unit.

Jeremy Vashaw was arrested Thursday and was charged with one count of dissemination of sexually explicit material of persons under the age of 12.

Vashaw's computer was seized in December. He was arrested after the computer's contents were analyzed by computer crime unit technicians. State Police representative Stephen McCausland said hundreds of images of children were found on the computer.

Vashaw is being held at Oxford County Jail.

He works at Sunday River and is on the Rumford town budget committee.
