Retired Bryan peace officer on slain SAPD investigator: 'It makes me feel sick'

BRYAN, Texas - The shooting of SAPD Det. Benjamin Marconi has shaken not only the San Antonio law enforcement community but others as well.

Retired peace officer Dale Cuthbertson spent nearly 30 years in law enforcement. He's making sure his motorcycle is tuned up for his next ride to San Antonio. It's something he is not looking forward to.

"Not again. Not again we have another ambush of a police," said Cuthbertson. "I mean Houston, Dallas, now San Antonio."

Cuthbertson and members of the Brazos Valley Thin Blue Line Motorcycle Club plan to ride to San Antonio in honor and memory of Marconi.

His slaying is something Cuthbertson is having a hard time dealing with.

"Sick. It makes me feel sick," he said. "This officer would have put his life on the line to save the man who killed him."

Cutbertson says it's a sign of the times.

"I think life overall is being devalued, he said. "I mean these individuals that do these cowardly acts, they don't put any value on another human life whatsoever."

He also has a message for the person who killed Det. Marconi.

"What kind of hatred can you harbor to bring yourself to do this kind of act?"
