Red Cross helps four families left homeless after fire engulfs Lewiston apartments

LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --  The American Red Cross is helping four families left homeless after a fire engulfed their Lewiston apartment building on Saturday.

The Red Cross says they will ensure the families have a safe place to sleep, food and other essentials.

Red Cross Regional Director Justin Burkhardt says the American Red Cross shelters feed and provide emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid, and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
