PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — People waited in line early Saturday morning at Hadlock Field to get tickets for Portland Sea Dogs' upcoming 2017 season.
The first day of ticket sales included numerous activities at Hadlock, including the annual Hadlock Field Yard Sale, an appearance by Slugger, games, ballpark tours at 10 a.m., a souvenir store discount (with ticket purchase) and free coffee and donuts.
Some people drove to Portland from many miles away — such as Massachusetts — just to buy their tickets in person.
"We do this every year," said Lowell, Mass., resident Christine Connaughton. "We get up early. We make the drive. We never miss it. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with the Sea Dogs one more time before winter."
Five fireworks shows are scheduled for May 26, June 24, July 4, Aug. 16 and Sept. 1.
The fan favorite "Field of Dreams" promotion will take place on Sept. 3. Bobblehead giveaways, theme nights, celebrity appearances, traveling acts and other promotional dates will be added throughout the offseason.
The 2017 season will be the Dogs' 24th, and 15th as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. They will open the season on Thursday, April 6, against the Reading Fightin Phils at home.
