PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Portland Public Schools held a back-to-school fair for its multilingual families on Saturday.
It gave the community a chance to get assistance completing school forms and learn about community services available. The school department provided translators for 11 different languages.
While parents filled out paperwork, the kids were entertained thanks to the Portland Children's Museum and Greater Portland YMCA.
Portland superintendent Xavier Botana said it was an opportunity for parents to get help and meet other families in the area.
"For new families that are new to the U.S., that are new to the area and don't have the language skills, it's really difficult to be able to know how to complete all the paperwork," he said.
The annual fair was hosted by the Multilingual & Multicultural Center.
