PORTLAND, MAINE (NEWS CENTER) -- One-thousand volunteers gathered at the Deering High School gym in Portland Sunday for Million Meals Maine.
The volunteers met and packed food to ship to hungry children in Haiti. This is the second year of the event, and the group's goal was to pack 200-thousand meals!
Event organizer Charity Hirst says the amount of volunteers doubled in size this year.
Million Meals Maine hope to eventually pack 1-million meals on the day of the event.
